Thermoregulation physiology and physiopathology of ultraendurance runners (Principal Supervisor – Co-Supervisor: Sébastien Racinais)

Biography

Nicolas Bouscaren is a public health physician, epidemiologist, and sports physician. His research topics are based on the epidemiology of injuries, science, and sports medicine. As a hospital practitioner at the University Hospital of Reunion since 2015, he has naturally turned more specifically to a significant discipline on the island: the ultraendurance running. In 2021, he will be enrolled in a doctoral programme at the Jean Monnet University where he will complete a science thesis directed by Prof. Guillaume Millet and Prof. Sébastien Racinais at the Laboratoire Interuniversitaire de Biologie de La Motricité. His subject is the study of the repercussions on health and the constraints of ultra-trail running. More specifically, he is seeking to understand better the physiopathology of thermoregulation in this discipline. Each year, the Grand Raid de La Réunion and the thousands of runners on the island allow him to quench his thirst for knowledge and carry out research projects as close as possible to the runners, in close collaboration with Prof. Guillaume Millet and the LIBM, and Prof. Sébastien Racinais. He also collaborates on various studies related to sports science at national and international levels.
